Internal Disputes in Mexico City: Deputy Booed at Assembly

This weekend, the vice-coordinator of Morena in San Lázaro, Gabriela Jiménez, suffered the first signs of the internal disputes existing in the national capital when she was booed during an informative assembly she led in the Azcapotzalco borough. The event ended with shouts, shoves, and police intervention. As reported by LPO at the time, the now-federal deputy attempted to run for the mayoralty of Azcapotzalco in 2024, which was then governed by the PAN. Despite the time that has passed, tensions persist because in the Chamber of Deputies, the vice-coordinator of the 4T anticipates she will make another move for the demarcation, which elevates tensions as the current mayor seeks re-election. Brugada backed the stance of AMLO and Sheinbaum on Venezuela: 'We believe in peace and sovereignty.' With this scenario, Jiménez led an informative assembly in the borough this Sunday with the aim of beginning to position her name for 2027 and to publicize the achievements of the government of President Claudia Sheinbaum and the federal leadership of the 'guinda' party.

The situation reached a peak of tension when the deputy was followed for several streets by her supporters, which led to police intervention to safeguard her integrity. Minutes later, Jiménez issued a statement through social networks, where she denounced that the event, held in the Jardín Hidalgo, was interrupted by 'orchestrated aggressions' by sectors she linked to the current administration and the Secretariat of Citizen Participation led by Tomás Pliego in CDMX. The year that has just begun will not be an electoral one in Mexico City, but tensions are already beginning to surface for the 2027 elections. Despite the time left before the elections, political disputes are reviving with unpredictable consequences for the electoral landscape.

In 2024, Azcapotzalco was one of the most hotly contested demarcations, considering the differences between Gabriela Jiménez, who comes from the PAN, and the mayor, Nancy Núñez, who identifies with the purist sectors closest to Head of Government Clara Brugada. However, she did not succeed in her endeavor, as the candidate turned out to be the now-morenista mayor, Nancy Núñez. 'It was full of paid structures,' she shot back, adding that in the coming days she will file a detailed complaint with the people who would presumably have been involved. In any case, the assembly was interrupted by a group of neighbors who booed her and shouted slogans recalling her PAN past. 'We cannot normalize any type of violence,' she added. In this way, the first tensions are beginning to emerge within the ruling camp in the run-up to next year's elections, which promise to be more than a headache for the 'guinda' party.
